Introduction
League-based matchmaking is a system used in certain multiplayer games, particularly in competitive or ranked modes, to ensure that players are matched with opponents of similar skill levels. The goal is to create a fair and balanced playing experience by pitting players against others who are roughly as skilled as they are.
Within this system, a player can gain two types of trophies over their game career.
Leagues
In the league-based matchmaking system used in War Robots, there are several leagues that a player can be sorted into depending on how many trophies they have during a season.
- Recruit
- Private
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Diamond
- Expert
- Master
- Champion
Each one of the leagues listed have sub-divisions (Private 1, Private 2, etc.), that a player will be further sorted into prior to a new season beginning.
- Each league will be colored coded in the game, their name would depict the color that they represent (silver league is a silver color)
- Within the league interface, the league numbers are depicted in roman numerals that are present beside the league itself.
- Upon being promoted to the next league, the player will gain a certain amount of gold for a one-time advancement. Subsequent promotions in the same league will not attribute the player with more gold.
- Within a league, its divisions are ordered from greatest to least; where the lower the number is, the high the division in respect to preceding divisions.
Players who are in Champion league will be further separated into subdivisions based upon their trophy range, each division will have a certain number that corresponds to a certain subdivision. From this point onwards, players will gain champion trophies (so long as they stay in Champion league) that will show up separately under their trophy count in their profile and when being viewed in the league interface. Currently, there is no maximum amount of Champion trophies that a player can accumulate.
The top 100 players from each platform will be put into a final league, called the Legend league. This is equivalent to the top one percent of 'pro' players in War Robots, and will have their positions viewable for every player on the respective platform to see.
Seasons
Each season lasts one month, and during that time players can gain trophies to increase their rating and position in the league system. However, after one month has lapsed, they will receive a certain amount of gold for their current ranking and will be able to continue off from where they last ranked (no trophies are lost in the reset).
However, in the case of Champion league's Legend league, the top 100 players will have their rank reset and will have to gain League trophies to reach their intended rank or a higher one. This mechanic also applies to some divisions in Champion league, to some extent.
At the same time, any guidable titles that a player may have will be reset back to their default emblem (instead of the golden variant). In order to re-gild a title, the player must complete certain tasks/challenges within the season's timeframe.
Promotion and Demotion
A player can gain a certain amount of league trophies for each match they complete, which can be as follows. Note that the distribution of trophies will vary depending on a player's place on their team and the outcome of the match.
Place | Win | Lose |
---|---|---|
First | +13 | +7 |
Second | +10 | +3 |
Third | +7 | -5 |
Fourth | +4 | -11 |
Fifth | +3 | -17 |
Sixth | +2 | -22 |
- Players in Bronze league and lower will not be attributed negative trophies, and instead gain zero trophies when completing a match that results in a lose.
- Additional trophies may be attributed to a player when achieving top place for beacons captured, kill streak, healing, etc.
Promotion will occur when a player reaches the maximum threshold that their current league allots, after that point they will be tried for five matches to keep their rating above the threshold. If they succeed, they will be placed in the league that comes after their current one.
Demotion can be achieved if a player manages to lose a certain number to league trophies, where they will be tried for 5 battles to retain their current league. If they fail to meet the minimum trophy requirement by the end of five matches, they will be placed in the league that precedes their current one.
With each promotion to a new league, the player will gain access to a certain Battle Rewards crate that corresponds to their current league. The inverse can also occur, where the player will lose access to certain Battle Rewards crates when being demoted. Each crate will have a varying amount of resources and items in it; such as silver, gold, power cells, components, etc.
Battle Rewards
These are resource crates that are automatically given to a player when they reach a certain number of Honor Points needed to open a crate. Players can earn honor points to open subsequent crates in a track bar; the higher the player's league is, the more crates they will be able to open before having their progress reset.
In a way, these are incentives for players to continue playing the game and are rewarded for their progress.
- Upon reaching the Battle Rewards crate that corresponds to a player's league, the progress bar will reset back to zero after opening, and the player can gain honor points fill it up again.
- If a player descends down their current league to a lower league and has honor points attributed past the threshold of their last league, they will automatically open the league crate from the league they left.
- Depending on the situation, it is possible to open more than one crate at a time.
Players will receive a final reward after reaching the end of their progress track, and will receive a certain amount of silver upon having their progress reset.
Trivia
- Colloquially, players that hold certain ranks will sometimes be called "Masters", "Experts", "Champions", etc, by other players when being referred to.
- However, this type of nicknaming is only valid for players that are above Diamond league.
- Leagues are the replacement for Tiers, used in old matchmaking.
- Introduction of Leagues were very controversial and inspiring a lot of rants on WR forum.
- League points were revised three times as of June 2017.
- In the 2.9 update, beacon capping is now rewarded, which previously wasn't.
- League points rewards could be changed on server, without updating the game app itself.
