Introduction[]

The Bulgasari is a medium robot with 3 medium hardpoints. It is unofficially classified as a heavy robot based on wiki criteria.

Abilities[]

The Bulgasari's Dash ability gives it the capability of a quick burst of movement in any given direction. It shares this ability with the other two Korean robots, the Kumiho, and the Haechi. Other robots that possess this ability are the Nether (however it is called Quake, the ability also comes with a built-in weapon which inflicts the EMP effect), Bolt and Strider (Note that these 3 robots have no relation to the Bulgasari). The Bulgasari can store two Dash charges. It is both the slowest bot and most heavily armored robot of the Korean robots group.

The Bulgasari is the only robot with the Dash ability to also have a built-in physical shield, which is attached to its left side. It will be broken off after sustaining enough damage like the Ecu and other robots with physical shields.

Strategy[]

The Bulgasari possesses three medium hardpoints. The combination of its high firepower, solid health, strong physical shield, and Dash ability, can make this robot a formidable bot on the battlefield.

The Bulgasari can utilize its dual Dash charges to conduct ambushes on unsuspecting enemies. It can use its first Dash charge to move out of cover and unload a magazine from its weapons onto the enemy (ideally burst weapons). When the enemy realises what's occuring and turns around to engage with the Bulgasari, the Bulgasari can either tilt itself so its physical shield blocks the returning fire or simply use its other Dash charge to move back into cover.

Another use of the robot's Dash ability is to dodge incoming burst damage salvoes. A well-timed Dash can allow the Bulgasari to evade a considerable portion, if not all of the incoming damage, saving the robot from taking a massive blow that it would've suffered if it hadn't Dashed. This strategy can be used against sustained-damage weapons to, but is unlikely to be particularly effective due to the slow diffusion of the aforementioned weapons' clip damage anyways, and given the Bulgasari's long Dash reload is generally not considered to be worth it. As such, try to use the Dash charges exclusively to mitigate high-intensity burst damage if they must be used for this purpose.

The robot's weaknesses include its inability to block rocket weapons and average ground speed (when not using its Dash ability). Burst-damage and high DPS sustained damage weapons are good weapons suited to the Bulgasari and its playstyles, the former complimenting its ability to use its two Dash charges to hit-and-run extremely well, and the latter complimenting its ability to tank out lots of damage and deal considerable damage over a prolonged period of exposure at the same time.

The Bulgasari's physical shield is located on its side so it must turn its torso in the direction of incoming fire so the shield can block the damage. The shield does not extend far beyond the robot's torso so some projectiles might not be blocked. The Bulgasari's shield is also the second most durable shield in the game, which means commanders should not be afraid to use it regularly in combat. In fact, commanders should actively use the physical shield to block all damage instead of tanking it using the Bulgasari's hull, as if the physical shield remains at the end of the Bulgasari's lifespan, that means that health was wasted. However, when facing explosive weapons, point the physical shield away, as it would do nothing to prevent the explosive damage anyways and is just wasting shield health.

A lesser-known strategy with the Bulgasari involves lock-on weapons paired with manual aiming (which can be activated in settings). The commander can lock-on to an opponent, then activate manual aiming, which will make two sets of green brackets appear beside the cross-hairs. The commander can turn the torso of the robot right, however making sure the cross-hairs are still within the brackets, so the Bulgasari can fire while using its physical shield to block damage at the same time.

In the hands of a commander having a lot of expertise in piloting a Bulgasari, the Bulgasari can hold its own against Tier 4 ambushers (provided it is equipped with the correct weapons, pilot, modules and drone). This is because the Bulgasari has only one advantage period to exploit (when its shield is destroyed), as it does not rely on its ability in order to survive, rather its base stats and shield help it stay on the battlefield. This means that the Bulgasari has no distinct period in which ambushing it provides a better result - it is equally protected throughout its lifetime as long as its shield is not destroyed.

Counterplay: The Bulgasari is not particularly difficult to counter. Utilizing splash or special weapons can bypass its physical shield, which accounts for a huge portion of its health. In addition, using a fast robot to quickly flank the Bulgasari can be a viable strategy, as it too not only allows the assailant to mitigate the Bulgasari's shield, but also prevent the Bulgasari from hitting it for a few seconds. Try not to brute force the Bulgasari using energy or kinetic weaponry - its physical shield combined with its hull add up to a stupendous amount of durability that can take a long time to whittle down unless the right strategies are used.

Threat Measure: The Bulgasari's highly impressive base stats, paired with an exceptionally durable physical shield, two very versatile (if unremarkable) ability charges and a lack of an advantage period make it an amazing counter to situational ambushers. All of these variables factored in together make the Bulgasari a mediocre-large threat as a Tier 3 robot in the hands of a skilled commander.

Possible Setups[]

These setups are effective for the Bulgasari:

Note: Each slot type is filled with only one particular weapon. For example, if a robot has 3 light all three of those slots are filled with Pinatas, as mixing weapons of the same slot type is not advisable.

Overview[]

The Bulgasari is a brawler and best used for close-range engagements against other Tier 3 bots. However, the Bulgasari has recently fallen out of favor due to the shield's vulnerability to explosive/special weapons and abilities which can bypass physical shields, while also being able to deal a large amount of damage. Examples include the Sirius' Remote Assault (as despite being acoustic, the projectiles of the attack turret has an Area-of-Effect large enough to bypass physical shields), the Rook's Castling, the Luchador's Frog Splash, the Indra's Electrical Lasso, the Minos' Charge, the Arthur's Blast Wave, the Kid's Stove, the Invader's Incursion, the Mercury's Helldive, the Hellburner's Overload, the Ao Jun's Dragon Breath, the Shell's Atom, the Ochokochi's Stampede, the Harpy's Firestorm and the Siren's Snowstorm

The Bulgasari's physical shield plus dash ability allows the bot to advance and close in on an enemy while taking fire. Weapons that have both mid-range and close-quarters capabilities like the Scourge support this tactic.

For mid-range support and ambushing, Shocktrain, Scourge, and Ion are good for harassment, using the dash to move in and out of cover while deflecting sniper fire with its shield. This tactic overall makes the Bulgasari much more sustainable, as it outranges everything that it is vulnerable to. However, it is still vulnerable to Hazard/Wasp/Pulsar/Skadi/Hussar-type weapons as they can deal high damage even at 600m.

The biggest counter to mid-range Bulgasari builds are very fast robots that can outlast or evade its weaponry via the use of Resistance or Stealth - no matter how many times Bulgasari dashes, it will not be able to escape other, more nimble bots. This is why triple Scourges is the most recommended setup, as they provide mid-range support while also giving the Bulgasari a chance against faster robots in the event of a close-ranged brawl due to their lock-on effect.

Trivia[]

  • Pixonic stated that they are "moving away from light, medium, heavy classification" starting with the "Dash Bots", though each Dash Bot could be easily given a classification- Kumiho (light), Haechi (medium), Bulgasari (heavy).
  • This robot has the second most durable physical shield out of any robot in the game, with the first belonging to the Rhino.
  • According to a Korean language dictionary, this is what the Bulgasari looks like: "body is a bear's, nose is an elephant's, eye is a rhino's, fur is of needles, tail is a cow's, and leg is a tiger's"
